Home / HPCI Parent Network Update – 26 November
A couple of interesting invitations this week, as well as some benefits guidance and a change to accessing Child Trust Funds.
Goal Based Outcomes training – to inform EHCP Annual Reviews
Naina Cowell and Melanie Flay (Principal Educational Psychologists) have asked me to let you know about a training session that they are delivering next month about Goal Based Outcomes (GBOs).
Who should attend? This is relevant to all parents and carers of children and young people who have an EHCP and attend a mainstream school or SEMH provision.
What will I learn? From next year, GBOs will be used to measure progress against outcomes in EHCPs. Setting goals in this way will help schools, parents and young people to measure progress in relation to the outcomes in the plan and this information will then be used as part of the Annual Review process and discussions.
When? The training is taking place via Microsoft Teams on 17 December from 10:00 – 11:30
How do I book a place? Please email sendstrategy@hertfordshire.gov.uk and you will be sent an invite.
Your help needed to create a new animation about ADHD / Autism diagnosis and support in Hertfordshire
HPCI are working with the Local Authority and the NHS as they put together an animation for parents/carers who need guidance on where to access support for children, young people and their families who are living with ADHD and/or Autism. They are keen to address some of the myths around support and so would like to give you the opportunity to contribute your views and experiences. Ideally, they are looking for parents/carers who are early on in their journey.
If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, then please come and join us on Tuesday 7th December 2021 at 10.30am – 12.30pm (via Zoom), where you will have the opportunity in small groups to share your experiences, views and expectations, all of which will contribute towards the new animation project.
If you are interested, please send an email to kate@hertsparentcarers.org.uk and let me have your name, email address, your child’s age and whether your child does or does not have a diagnosis.
New videos to explain Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has created a playlist that provides information about Disability Living Allowance, with short videos that explain what it is, how to make a claim and what happens when your child turns sixteen. There is a second playlist that has the information provided for parents and carers who use British Sign Language.
Accessing Child Trust Funds
Finally, you may be interested in this article on the Money Saving Expert website which provides an update on proposed changes that would allow families of children who do not have the mental capacity to manage their own money, to withdraw up to £2,500 from Child Trust Funds and junior ISAs without the need for court approval.
Thanks very much for reading and I hope that you have a lovely weekend.
