HCC announces an additional £5m annually for its SEND service – 24 May 2023 update

In the 2022 HPCI survey, hundreds of families expressed concerns about Hertfordshire County Council’s SEND service. Since then, we have used that feedback in many conversations with HCC staff and council members.

We are really pleased therefore that the council yesterday announced an additional investment of £5 million annually in this vital service, which we understand is not a one-off investment but will be added into the annual budget going forward.

We are now keen to understand further how this money will be used, so that a consistent service with well trained staff is available to support all children and young people with SEND who need it. 

We will keep our members up to date with developments when we know more but we thought you’d like to hear this breaking news.  And we also want to express our thanks to all families who took the time to complete our survey or who have raised issues directly themselves.  It’s brilliant to see the concerns of parents and carers being listened to and acted on.  So many thanks.
