Welcome to our final update of the academic year.
It’s been another very busy year for HPCI – if you’d like to learn more about what we’ve been doing, you can look at our end of year summary, which is available here.
And looking ahead, it’s going to be a busy year for SEND in Hertfordshire:
This short update closes off this year, with information about:
SEND Summit coming this September
Hertfordshire County Council is hosting a SEND Summit to shape the future of SEND services. The event will bring together: Local Councillors; health, education and social care professionals; along with parent carers, and representatives from the voluntary and community sector.
HCC says this Summit will build on previous feedback and improvement work to identify the most important priorities for SEND. These will be included in the new SEND Strategy for 2026–2031.
There is still time to give your views via this survey. A shorter version is also available, as is a survey for children and young people.
Hertfordshire Music Service Inclusive Choir
This is an inclusive contemporary style choir for children in year 5 up to the age of 25, with a focus on giving a voice to those with SEN and complex needs. Further details can be found here.
Department for Education Survey – Parent carer views of SEND bases within mainstream schools.
Department for Education (DfE) have asked the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) to share this survey which is looking to gather views from parents and carers who have a child who currently, or has previously, attended a SEN unit or resourced provision, or a school’s own unit for SEND provision.
The NNPCF intend to publish the response to this survey and the information collected will help DfE make decisions about SEND provision in mainstream schools. You can find out more information about why the NNPCF are running this survey and who to contact if you have any questions in this parent carer information sheet.
The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete and is available here.
As always, thanks for reading, and thank you to everyone who has given feedback to HPCI over the year. If you want to give any thoughts about your experience of SEND services in Hertfordshire, you can always use our feedback form.
As everyone at HPCI is a parent carer of a child with SEND, our office is closed over the summer, but we’ll be back at it in September! We all wish you as relaxing a summer holiday as possible.
